How is Sleep Apnea Treated?
Our most effective treatment is CPAP therapy which applies a continuous pressure to your airway with a machine that will help open your airways as you sleep. While this may be effective the machine is bulky and is also noisy therefore patients finding it to be uncomfortable and inconvenient. The mask applied to your face as you sleep also makes patients feel nervous and claustrophobic. With the mask you may also experience nightmares, dry nose and soar throat due to the air pressure, nasal irritation, skin and eye irritation, nosebleeds, and the mask may not fit you properly. If this should not be the appropriate treatment for you, we also offer oral appliance therapy in which we physically open the airway by repositioning and strengthening the surrounding airway structures. The oral appliances are similar to orthodontic retainers and mouth guards but require a lot of repositioning of the tongue ad jaw which may cause discomfort, but may still be more comfortable then CPAP therapy. Bring back the comfort and enjoyment of sleeping for you and those around you, here at Rye Dentistry we understand the importance of treating sleep apnea, call us today to come in for a complimentary consultation and we will find the best solution to bring comfort back into your sleeping habits.
